In part 2, we look at skin conditions that affect performance and how to manage them.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>Dry, cracked skin<\/h2>\n<p><b>What is dry and cracked skin:<\/b> Dry, tight, or flaky skin, often with micro-cracks.<\/p>\n<p><b>Causes:<\/b> Overuse of chalk, frequent handwashing, cold air, dehydration or not moisturizing.<\/p>\n<h3>Caring for dry and cracked skin:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Regularly apply KletterRetter hand cream<\/li>\n<li>Use a skin file once to twice week to smooth rough edges<\/li>\n<li>Wash hands with mild soap after climbing, not harsh detergent or disinfectant<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Sweaty palms<\/h2>\n<p><b>What are sweaty palms?<\/b> Excessive sweating on the palms of your hands, even at rest or under mild stress.<\/p>\n<p><b>Causes:<\/b> Genetics, overactive sweat glands, or nerves<\/p>\n<h3>Prevention and care of sweaty palms:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Use liquid chalk without resin for longer drying effect<\/li>\n<li>Avoid petroleum-based skin care products<\/li>\n<li>Improve grip with a chalk routine: base layer (liquid), top layer (powder)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Thin skin<\/h2>\n<p><b>What is thin skin?<\/b> The bane of all climbers sooner or later! Skin that has become too thin or delicate to handle climbing friction.
